Today I'm flying cross-country to San Francisco! I'll be giving a presentation on Wednesday morning, so my trip is just 24-hours long. I haven't taken a business trip in like five years, and it feels exciting. Also my twin sister Lucy lives there, so we'll be jam-packing some quality time into one evening together. (We're thinking Italian food and Mindy Kaling.)
If I could pack anything in my suitcase, I'd choose one of these shoes or bags. J.Crew has been nailing it with their new handbag and shoe shop. They'd transition well from work to play, and wouldn't they lovely for fall? See the full collection here.Yahoo, San Francisco, here I come! (I've been told not to call it San Fran:)

Those bags definitely make me want to shop!
ReplyDeleteI've lived here for years and I call it San Fran :-) !
ReplyDeleteThat makes me feel better because I'm a newbie to the bay area and have been calling it San Fran too. I didn't want to get thrown out lol!
DeleteI was told not to call it San Fran either, SF will do for them! I was there for a long weekend recently and I ate so well!!
ReplyDeleteYay have a lovely time! And yes, definitely NO San Fran!
ReplyDeleteIs Frisco acceptable? I had a college friend that always called it Frisco.
ReplyDeleteAs a native - dear lord, please NO on both counts (Friso or San Fran) :-)
DeleteHow fun! Are you ladies going for Italian food in the city or on the peninsula?
ReplyDeletemmm, those top mary jane pumps are beautiful!
ReplyDeletehave fun, joanna! x
have a wonderful time in san francisco, i love the bags!they would be perfect for fall time...
ReplyDeletenever frisco. sf or san francisco should suffice.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Have fun and good luck on the presentation! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI've always been told that Frisco was completely unacceptable by my relatives who live up there.
ReplyDeleteIt's not quite fall here just yet. Supposed to be 80* in SF this weekend. But drops in the evenings. September and October are our "summer" months here :). Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time, Joanna! And if you can, enjoy the time to yourself (even if only on the plane). You've earned it!
ReplyDeleteAnd the mary janes are to die for...
Just moved from SF and I miss the food! Eat way too much for me.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you said not to call it San Fran. I live there and cringe every time I hear it. Problem is there's really no polite way to tell somebody that noooo one who lives there would ever say that, b/c it's such a minor thing. So yes, thank you.
ReplyDeletei hate when people call it san fran! and i hate when people call california "cali", i don't know why!
ReplyDeleteMe too! Pet peeves of mine for no good reason!
DeleteP.S. Didn't you guys already watch the MK preview on Hulu?? ;) Haha, but it's worth watching again.
ReplyDeleteBorn and bred. Frisco is the worst, San Fran is next worst. SF, San Francisco, or the City.
ReplyDeletePeriod.
Yes, we're very adamant, very possessive about the name.
cg
Haha I was just going to say, the city is also perfectly acceptable!
DeleteHave a nice time! I would love to visit San Francisco! My favourite TVshow when I was a kid was Full House ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd those loafers (or are they slippers?) would be perfect to walk up and down the hills. Love them!

I'm going there Thursday for a long (bday) weekend! And trying to figure out the best place to go out for dinner Friday night...so many options!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is anything wrong with San Fran...most of my friends call it SF, San Fran, or San Francisco...never Frisco though!
ReplyDeleteWhere are you grabbing Italian food? Flour + Water is amazing in SF and Osterria is a great place in Palo Alto. Have a fun trip and welcome to the Bay! :)

As a native, I can tell you all that there are currently 2 acceptable ways of referring to San Francisco: 1. San Francisco and 2. SF.
ReplyDeleteHave a great visit here!
AGREED!!!
DeleteThose Mary Jane pumps are to die for.
ReplyDelete**As someone who lives here, calling it San Fran or Frisco immediately gets you labeled as a tourist. We call it the city or San Francisco.
Loving that first pair of shoes.

Or The City.
ReplyDeleteso excited you're going to be here!
Just don't call it Frisco. (I almost feel like I shouldn't even be typing that.)
ReplyDelete-An SF resident
No San Fran. No Frisco. Just San Francisco. Or SF. Or "The City." Enjoy your quick visit to our fair city.
ReplyDeletehahaha...it's "san francisco" or "sf". have a good time!
ReplyDeleteAhhh I love all of those shoes and bags!
ReplyDeleteHave fun!

Wow, good luck in San Fran! Love the shoes!
ReplyDeleteAw, how much fun! And yes. Never call it, 'san fran'. All of the locals can tell ;)
ReplyDeleteI've heard the locals used to call it Frisco.. and then I heard only non-locals call it Frisco! So what DO the locals call the City by the Bay?
DeleteWe call it "the city". Or San Francisco, which comes out sounding like "Sarencisco". Sometimes "SF" is appropriate. It's true that some very old-timers can get away with "Frisco" but they're the only ones... and San Fran just pegs you as a transplant, usually from the Midwest. :)
DeleteHallelujah!! Finally a blog post on this, that gets it right! :) I have yet to meet an old-timer who says Frisco. ps. I'm allergic to "Frisco" - I break out in hives when people say it. pps. the only time I don't call it the city is when I'm around New York people.
DeleteI've always wanted to go to San Fran, hehe! I'm totally jealous. P.S. Love the read bag!

Those bags are fantastic! They're the perfect blend of well-made, leather, almost luxe.. but nearly workhorse-level versatility. Oh, and none of them even creeps towards $1000. You've inspired me on my handbag investment!
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip :)

No Frisco either!! : )
ReplyDeleteyou sound as excited as this SF girl is when i get to fly to NYC!! not sure where you are going to be, but these are a few of our italian favorites. A16, Farina, & Delfina.
ReplyDeleteplease please please never call it San Fran. It's either San Francisco or the "city" (though I realize that's a bit provincial for someone from NYC. Where is your presentation?
ReplyDeleteI loooooove! The double strapped mary janes are so adorable! I hope you have a great presentation..... and that you'll share about it when you're done!

Happy travel!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely not San Fran nor Frisco. San Francisco or SF work fine. But who knows, maybe a few years from now calling it SF will be touristy and us locals will be calling it something else (like Oakland :) )
ReplyDeleteI want the Booker boot.... must have Booker boot. Some day :)
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip and those shoes all need to be in my closet right away!
ReplyDeleteohh fun - something big and exciting in the works?

oh! you guys should eat at Allegro Romano! My husband and I went to San Francisco for our honeymoon and we ate there two nights in a row! we had such a wonderful experience! Food, service, and atmosphere were exactly what we wanted. very nice place but with a casual/intimate vibe.
ReplyDeleteLove those burgundy shoes. Hope you have a great time in San Francisco....one of my favorite cities!
ReplyDeletexx,

What? We shouldn't call it San Fran? I'm freaking behind the times. Per usual.

My absolute favorite Italian restaurant is Locanda in the Mission. Great food, great wine, and beautiful decor. It's my go-to recommendation for friends who come into the city!
ReplyDeleteI have lived in the Bay Area for 8 years--I love to call the city Frisco just to see people cringe.
ReplyDeleteJoanna, you and Lucy are going to have the best time!!! You must be beyond excited!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Favorite comment of the day: "I have lived in the Bay Area for 8 years--I love to call the city Frisco just to see people cringe." -Ashley

wow so what is this presentation about?? good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious -- is this a sponsored post? I don't see any mention.
ReplyDeleteHave a good trip!
ReplyDeleteI wish i could also hop on a plane to SF today! Isn't it somehow the most european of all american cities? It's got such a nice vibe to it. Good luck with the conference!

Lucky you! San Francisco is a beautiful city! ... I like the brown bag with brown boots!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've seen San Fran--have a fab trip
ReplyDeleteYes. Native San Franciscans (like me!) only abbreviate the name as either SF or The City. Do NOT, under any circumstances, refer to it as 'Frisco!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip!
San Fran is fine. Just don't call it Frisco.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy our amazing town. If I may suggest...you can get tremendous Italian food in NY, but there is a tiny wonderful little restaurant by Ocean Beach called Outerlands (at Judah and 45th Ave) which will make you want to go home, pack up the family, and move to SF ASAP. I highly recommend it. No reservations. Just show up at 6pm when they open. Have fun!
San Francisco is my favourite city to visit. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI love those mary jane pumps.
San Fran is okay! its just like every other abbrev out there. FRISCO IS NOT OKAY.
ReplyDeletehow exciting!
ReplyDeleteBut oh no, from a native, never san fran and never ever frisco.
SF or 'the city' when you're in town and 'the bay' covers a lot of territory but includes the city, you're in 'the bay' when you're in the city.
it's so funny, these things.. have a wonderful trip.
We went to San Francisco on my honeymoon and my best friend (who'd lived there) said the same thing about not calling it San Fran. She said it's a sure-fire way to tell you're a tourist! Funny :)
ReplyDeleteLove all the J.Crew stuff too... I've been pining for that top left (red) satchel in blue! Love!
just bought those jcrew boots 5 mins ago! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's true. We just call it "the city."
