Top 10 entertaining movies

My darlings, the fall weather is getting cooler, and it's time to cuddle up and watch movies! Just for fun, here are my top ten just-for-fun movies, those movies you watch when you just want to chill. What are yours?

Royal Tenenbaums
Annie Hall
Rosemary's Baby
When Harry Met Sally
Emma
Ghost World
Clueless
Harold & Maude
The Graduate
Bridget Jones Diary

(I also secretly like Knocked Up, which always seems to be on TV; how can you resist deep-voiced Seth Rogen?)
P.S. Mindy Kaling's funny article about romantic comedies, and more fun round-ups.

  1. When Harry Met Sally!!! That's one of my all time favorites. Along with "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail." I always end up watching them when they come on tv even though I own them... Silly, I know!

I love old movies too- I could watch "An Affair to Remember" or "Breakfast at Tiffany's" or "Sabrina" a million times and never tire of them!

  5. My vote is for "When Harry Met Sally" too. I would always watch it with my brother and sister when we were home from college. By the way, I have a twin sister too. :) I have almost every line memorized. Remember when she hair sprays her hair in the car before they go in the restaurant...so hilarious.

  6. "The Graduate" is my pick :)

  7. You and I have such the same aesthetic. But you definitely need "Charade" on your list -- I totally adore that movie. Audrey Hepburn? Mancini soundtrack? Yes, please.

  11. I love it! One of my dearest friends and I have set our life goal to be to make it through the AFI top 100 list. We get together every few months on a sunday and pick out a classic to watch. I'm going to suggest some of these! One of our favorites was "Some Like it Hot."

I agree with many others in that I can watch (and re-watch) Love Actually and The Notebook indefinitely.

Another two: Persuasion (BBC version) and Sliding Doors. Every year or so I rewatch these.

    Annie Hall
    Definitely Maybe
    Wedding Crashers
    French Kiss
Pride and Prejudice (Keira Knightley version)
    500 Days of Summer
    Julie and Julia
Sex and the City Movie (the first one)
    The Family Stone

Diane Keaton and Meg Ryan are so good at putting me in a happy mood. :)

Jo, you should do a list of movies that are great for a good cry (if you do that sort of thing, because I do sometimes.)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love the Graduate. I can always watch You've Got Mail, anything with Bill Murray, old flicks with Audrey Hepburn or Cary Grant, Chocolat, Pride and Prejudice, Sound of Music....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Here is a totally eclectic mix of some of my favorites:

    An Education
    Home Alone
    Serendipity
    Amelie
    Big Daddy
    and Back to the Future!

I've always been the kind of person who would rather watch a movie I haven't seen before (even if it's not supposed to be great) than re-watch something. But I think that's changing and I'm starting to realize it's important to watch what makes me happy!

  45. "You've Got Mail" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan just embodies coziness to me - oversize sweaters, golden retrievers, corner book shop and autumn in New York! What could be better?

    ReplyDelete
  46. What a great list! You are right about the weather.

Also, thank you so much for re-mentioning Mindy Kaling's article "Flick Chicks"! It's so funny you mention the girl who works in the art gallery, because the book we are reading this month is a total guilty pleasure and the heroine works in an art gallery... shocker! hahaha

  50. I am a sucker for disaster movies. I love the scenes where major cities are annihilated or the hero escapes death in some ridiculous way.

I could watch the scene from 2012 when John Cusack drives a limo through a crumbling LA over and over again.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hitch and I Love You Man!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. 'love actually' and 'the family stone'.
these naturally lend themselves to more cozy winter/holiday type days.

    My list includes:
    - the totally silly 'Mama Mia'
    - Pride and Prejudice (both the A&E and recent remake)
    - The Kings Speech
    - Love Actually

......hilariously I did not realize that Colin Firth is in every single one of these movies until I typed it out. Now I don't know whether to be embarrassed or amazed at his acting abilities....

    ReplyDelete
  54. You've got mail for sure!

Though, here are some movies I have watched several times and never got tired of (and that can be quite tough) :
French Connection, The Godfather, Rear Window (any Hitchcock), Dirty Harry, All About Eve...
