Have a sweet weekend.

My lovely readers, what are you up to this weekend? Alex and I are going to our friend J's annual holiday dinner tonight. He always keeps the dinner menu a secret, so we're waiting with bated breath. For two of the past seven years he's served Turducken! It's a de-boned chicken inside a de-boned duck inside a de-boned turkey, and you can slice it like a loaf of bread. How rad is that? (Also a feat to fit it all into a tiny NYC oven.) Well, my lovelies, have a wonderful weekend, and, meanwhile, here are a few great posts from around the web...

Fourteen ways to survive a holiday flight.

A perfect gift for type enthusiasts.

YUM, breakfast...

J. Crew's pretty new wedding dress.

A bike twist on the ubiquitous poster.

Oooh, this beautiful shop is opening in a restored 1950's service station in Ohio. (Midwest is best!)

Crux blankets (via Melanie)

Make your own pine-cone garland and wreath chandelier!

Five pretty winter outfits. (LOVE the tie-die skirt.)

I love these old-school clutches.

Mark your calendars: The new season of Project Runway starts on January 14th!

And, to add a smile to your weekend, a hilarious Onion video...

LOVE the sailor shirt. But do not love the price! There has to be something equally authentic but much cheaper, right? I have one from LL Bean but don't think it's got enough heft.

  19. anonymous, do you mean the sailor shirt in the Refinery 29 story? the original Saint James sailor shirts from Brittany are pricy because they're so iconic and also come all the way from France, but luckily you can usually also find cute striped shirts at urban outfitters, club monaco, jcrew, and the gap. good luck!! xoxo

    Hi Joanna!
I always look at your blog for an injection of joy and optimism; I really like your positive attitude, and I start considering you as a virtual friend whose news you can't wait to hear. This weekend I'm mainly trying to avoid freezing (hope hot chocolate will help), but the next week end I'll come to New York! It's a big trip, considering I come from Italy, and I'm both excited and worried. Can I ask you some tips about the weather, the New Year's celebration (is Times Square the worst idea?) and the City in general? Obviously I'm searching for information throghout the web, but I'd like to have some advices from someone who lives here...just some words, I do not want to bother you! Thank you so much and best wishes
    Silvia

  37. hi silvia! thanks for your sweet comment. if you write me an email (my email address is on the blog -- hellojoannagoddard at gmail dot com), you'll get an instant reply with my favorite NYC restaurants and shops, actually. i'll also be doing a NYC guide in the new year. and people seem to like Times Square for new year's eve, although i'm so claustrophobic that i'm probably not the best person to ask about that! :) i hope you have a WONDERFUL trip!! xoxo
