Le Sigh.

Dear readers, I think we may have developed our first real blog slang: Le sigh. Lately, bloggers everywhere have been using this cute phrase--usually when they feel bummed or can't afford something. It's all over the web! Do you use "le sigh"? Don't you love its cute French vibe?

  12. Totally, I love saying it. And ditto raquellabella, learned it from pepe le pew as a kid!

My boyfriend has a drawing of a cat at his desk and I drew a little beret on him and wrote in a speech bubble "le mew!" and we find that to be the funniest thing on earth because we are Giant Nerds.

  18. Hmm. I thought I left a message but perhaps I didn't hit the right key. I hate to disagree with such lovely people, but it's twee for "official." Perhaps semi-? Just a thought from a bilingual...there is a lot of 'le cringing' about this & such a sophisticated blog doesn't deserve a cringe.

  25. My sister and I have been saying this since high school, and my 20 year reunion is this year! It originated from Pepe LePew, a croissant shop, and our original phrase, "Le duh." Related: Le beep-beep (excuse me), Le wow, and Le barf.

What can I say? We're totally continental, dude.

  39. I dont say le sigh, but i do seem to let out these really loud actual sighs at work! Someone will ask me what's wrong, and then I realize I must be sighing!

As for "le mew" I love it! In my case it would be "le woof" -- when i was in montreal recently i ran across a little silver dog charm that read "wouf" -- it's on my desk now!

And no one should feel bad about saying lovely. It's a lovely expression.
